Anzio is a city and on the coast of the Lazio region of Italy, and is about 51 km south of Rome. Anzio and the nearby Nettuno are famous for the battle of World War II‘s Italian Campaign, that took place on January 22nd 1944, with the Allied amphibious landing known as Operation Shingle.
Not so far from the location there is a possibility to visit the British Beach Head War Cemetery in Anzio and the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery in Nettuno.
Anzio is connected to Rome by the Via Nettunense (SS207), the Via Ardeatina (SS601) and by the Roma-Nettuno railway that connects Anzio with Roma Termini in around 1 hour.
Ferries and hydrofoils connect Anzio to the beautiful Ponza.
